Desert Life

Poetry

Sand sprays against the land, hissing

A Gray Fox yaps rapidly with his pack

The Red Tailed Hawk cries as she dives for prey

Just below, a jackrabbit’s feet thump on earth as it runs

A rattle snake rattles it’s tail in warning

Cicadas’ voices rise to a shriek

The hummingbird’s wings buzz

Wood peckers peck at cacti

A roadrunner sprints out from under a bush

Some birds tweet, chirp and sing excitedly

As day turns to night, a coyote howls

Wind picks up, whistling

Owls hoot, waking up

Rodents scurry below a giant saguaro

Crickets chirp and sing

The desert opens up as rain begins to fall

Rain batters against leaves

Streams form

Water trickles through plants

Life is reborn
